Exploring the Cosmos at Have A Heart’s Adult Respite Care
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Have A Heart’s Adult Respite Care program embarked on an interstellar journey, providing adults with physical and developmental disabilities an enriching, fun-filled day themed around astronomy. This event, part of our ongoing commitment to support adults with disABILITIES, was a success.
Our day center, nestled on 5 serene acres surrounded by family farms, is a haven for creativity and socialization. With an adaptive gym and a beautiful barn that hosts our fundraising events, it’s the perfect setting for our diverse programs. Since 2008, we have been dedicated to offering person-centered services that promote independence and personal growth.
The space-themed day was a fantastic blend of fun and learning, designed to spark curiosity and foster social connections. Attendees enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, each tailored to ensure inclusivity and enjoyment for everyone involved.
Activities for the Day:
Space-Themed Snacks: Attendees delighted in creatively named treats such as “moon rocks” and “star cookies,” which added a delicious touch to the day’s theme.
Galaxy Mural Creation: Participants collaborated on a large galaxy mural, using vibrant colors and imaginative designs to bring the wonders of space to life on canvas. This activity not only encouraged artistic expression but also teamwork and communication.
Adaptive Kickball: In our adaptive gym, participants played a spirited game of kickball, modified to accommodate all ability levels. This inclusive sport promoted physical activity and teamwork.
Space Bingo: Space-themed bingo was a hit, combining fun and cognitive engagement as players matched space-related images on their bingo cards.
Peer Socialization: Throughout the day, ample opportunities for just hanging out with peers allowed participants to build and strengthen friendships in a relaxed, supportive environment.
